The Importance of First Impressions

September 19 2012 – Robert Fiumara

Whenever you work in a consumer driven business, like the restaurant business, first impressions are everything.  Let’s set up a scenario:

A new restaurant has opened downtown.  It has been promoting itself as a fine dining restaurant. A young couple goes there on a date, expecting a romantic and upscale dining experience.  They walk into the new establishment and they see a waitstaff dressed in, what looks like, the clothes they wore to the Laundromat last week.  One of the kitchen staff pokes their head out from the back door to let a server know that they are making a change to the evening’s special and they’re wearing a bandana, a t-shirt and jeans. Nothing that says fine dining. Our young couple stays and eats their meal or maybe the leave to find something else.  Either way, their first impression of the new restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.

A situation like this could cause a restaurant that has everything going for it to lose out on a lot of money.  All of those problems could have been easily fixed with one solution: uniforms.  By instituting a uniform policy to a restaurant, you immediately give off an aire of professionalism and lends a credibility to the fine dining aesthetic.

Starting a new restaurant can be an expensive and risky venture, especially in today’s economy. So adding the expense of a set of uniforms for your front of house staff as well as your kitchen staff can be another daunting expense.  The expense is always worth it to give your diners the correct impression of your restaurant.  Not only that, but there are many affordable culinary apparel options for the discerning restaurant owner.

Fiumara Apparel is one such site that offers a wide variety of style and price options while maintaining a standard of quality and professionalism.  Finding a uniform that will work with the image of your restaurant as well as maintaining the comfort and professionalism of your staff is easy.  Fiumara Apparel offers designs from well known brands such as Bragard and Chefwear.
